REBUILDING LIVES: A Campaign To Significantly Increase The Number of Women And Their Families In King County Who Are Able to Escape Violence

Contribution & Pledge Form: ONLINE | PDF

As DAWN begins a year-long celebration of 30 years of service to women and children victimized by domestic violence, another landmark event is on the horizon and will become reality in 2010. DAWN’s House, our confidential shelter, is expanding!

Since its opening 18 years ago, DAWN’s 25-bed confidential facility has been near maximum capacity EVERY DAY. We have seen an increase in clients seeking services through our crisis line and requests for our emergency shelter have doubled over the past five years. In 2009 we were forced to turn away 25 requests for shelter for every one survivor we were able to house. 1

Now, as we embark on our 4th decade of service with safety, access to resources, education and emotional support always at the fore, we will be able to shelter 50% more survivors each day by adding four ADA accessible bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen remodel and increased capacity in our laundry room.

We are able to move forward to significantly increase our capacity because we are surrounded by extremely generous community partners who have joined with DAWN to eliminate domestic violence. Already the organizations joining the effort are an amazing anonymous donor and long-time friends of DAWN: ConAm Property Management Corporation, Washington Multi-Family Housing Association, Employees Community Fund of The Boeing Company, HDS Supply, Seattle Apartment Finder, Nordstrom, Griffith Flooring, Sokiko Women’s Club, Beaverworx Roofing, Gonzales Construction and D.V. & Ida J. McEachern Charitable Trust.

Join us! We have to raise the remaining $95,000 of the total $250,000 amount needed by August 1st and your gift – OF ANY AMOUNT – will help get us there! Call Brenda Chrystie at 425-656-4305 x 258 for more information or to make your donation. You can also download a form and mail in your gift, or you can make your contribution via our secure web site.

Just as we answer the phone for 1,600 women in crisis each year, we are anxious to connect and talk with you as you consider this commitment to help women and their children break free from violence.

1. In comparison, our turn-away rate in 2004 was 12 requests for every 1 served – half of what it was in 2009.
