Safety Tips.

Protect Yourself.

Your safety is our top concern. If you are in immediate danger, please, don’t hesitate. Call 911.

Many people who live in violent relationships feel paralyzed and helpless. They are afraid or unsure about leaving because they don’t know how to take that first step. DAWN can help you create a safety plan that identifies the dangers you still face and develop action steps for dealing with them. Before you attempt to leave or take any legal or financial steps to separate yourself from your abuser, you should know that the danger of violence may increase if you try to leave. That’s why safety plans are so important. When you call DAWN’s 24-hour Advocacy and Support Line at 425-656-7867, we’ll begin the safety planning process with you immediately.

Protect Personal Devices.

We also know that abusers often control their victims by closely monitoring their every move — in person and online.

Don’t use your cell phone or personal computer or laptop. Visit the city or county library and use one of their computers, or borrow one from a neighbor, friend or relative.

Protect Your History.

Clear your browser history. With a website open, find the toolbar at the top of the page:

  • In Firefox, go to the far right-hand corner and click on the three horizontal lines. Then click on History and Clear Recent History.

  • In Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to Tools at the top left and then click Delete Browsing History.

  • In Safari on a Mac, click History and then delete individual websites you have visited. In Safari on an iPhone, tap on the two overlapping squares at the far-right bottom of your screen, then tap the X of each website that you wish to delete.

  • In Google Chrome, tap Menu, then History, then tap the X of each website that you wish to delete.
